Pulse gunman's widow found not guilty

Wife of Pulse nightclub killer Omar Mateen found not guilty of aiding husband's attack that left 49 people dead

Salman, 31, was found not guilty of aiding and abetting material support to a foreign terror organization and of obstruction of justice.

The Pulse shooting was the deadliest mass shooting in modern USA history, but has since been surpassed by the Las Vegas attack in which a shooter opened fire on an outdoor concert previous year, killing 58 people.

Salman's statement to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the hours after the attack appeared to play a key role in the case.

"I am disappointed in the outcome of the trail and know the victims and/or their families are more disappointed", Demings said.

Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of the widow of the Orlando nightclub shooter who killed 49 people in 2016.

A federal jury has found Noor Salman, the widow of the Pulse gunman, not guilty on all charges. Some people, you know, were watching the trial in hopes of obtaining some answers as to why, you know, Omar Mateen did this and why this happened.

"We just relived the whole thing all over again", said India Godman, who was in the nightclub when shots rang out, killing 14 of her friends.

Salman will now be reunited with her 5-year-old son, who has been living with relatives in California. Hours later, she walked out of Orange County jail, her head bowed as she held hands with defense lawyer Fritz Scheller.

"It's a frightful, random, senseless killing by a monster", Mr Swift said during closing arguments.

The defense said that Salman was nothing more than a victim of her husband's deceit and in no way an accomplice. They said Salman is not capable of being "calculating", "deceptive" or "able to connect the dots".

Salman did not testify during the trial. While the conviction of Noor Salman would not have brought anyone back or undone the crime, but the massacre now goes unresolved and still leaves many questioning her involvement.

In some of those statements, she admitted she knew her husband was devouring Islamic State propaganda and stockpiling weapons, and at one point said she helped him scout locations for his attack, but the defense successfully argued these were false confessions obtained under pressure and unsupported by the evidence. "Her only sin is she married a monster". She stood implicated helpful Mateen get ready for as well as intend the 2016 carnage at the club as well as of blocking private investigators' initiatives after the murder.

Salman's attorneys said they would not discuss when their client would be released.

"Nothing harmful would come out of her", a friend of Salman's who was identified only as Ms. Ahmed told jurors.

The revelation threatened to upend the case against Salman, but the judge denied the motion, saying it was not relevant to the case against her. Authorities had questioned her for 11 hours.

Attorney Charles Swift argued there was no way Ms Salman knew Mateen would attack the Pulse nightclub because even he didn't know he would attack it until moments before the shooting.

Sweeney said Mateen's initial plan was to attack Disney Springs, a commercial district adjacent to Disney World.
