Trump staff reportedly evicted as Panama hotel debacle comes to an end

Police Officers Brawl With Trump Hotel Employees in Panama to Evict Trump Organization

As ABC News reports, Trump Organization staffers were forcibly removed by police from the building on Monday amid a fight with owner Orestes Fintiklis over management of the hotel.

"Today, this dispute has been settled by the judges and the authorities of this country", Fintiklis told reporters. He then played a Greek anti-fascist anthem on a piano in the hotel lobby.

In recent weeks, physical confrontations between Fintiklis and Trump staff at the hotel began.

As part of the deal, the administration of the hotel remained in the hands of the Trump Organisation, run by the president's two sons since he took office a year ago.

Already the subject of litigation and arbitration complaints, the dispute escalated last month, when the Miami-based Fintiklis came to the property with termination notices for Trump's management team, only to be turned back by Trump security officials.

As part of his fire sale purchase of 202 of the hotel's 369 units, Fintiklis signed a February 2017 agreement not to challenge Trump's management contract - a deal that Trump Organizations consider binding.

The Trump Organization responded that Fintiklis had ignored existing legal cases, and resorted instead to "mob-style" tactics. His aim was to oust the Trump Organization, which has managed the hotel since its 2011 opening.

Fintiklis, who wants to drop the Trump name from the building, argued in court documents that the Trump Organization's mismanagement caused occupancy levels to drop while expenses rose.

"As long as President Trump refuses to divest from his businesses, his presidency will be followed by the shadow of conflict of interest", Jordan Libowitz, a spokesman for the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, told Business Insider yesterday.

However, it remains unclear exactly what kind of victory Fintiklis had claimed.

"Today Panama has made us proud", Fintiklis said, adding that he meant to apply for Panamanian citizenship.

Trump Organization employees were evicted from the Ocean Club Trump Hotel in Panama and the Trump name was removed from the front of the building on Monday.

In a statement, lawyers from The Trump Organization said that despite a judicial official siding with Fintiklis, no Panamanian court has made a determination in the dispute between Ithaca Capital Partners and the Trump International Hotel and Tower Panama.

For more than a week, Trump's hotel business staved off efforts by Fintiklis and his allies to gain control of the property, with rival security teams skirmishing over physical control of key infrastructure including the administrative offices and the hotel's closed-caption security system, which was housed in the condo association within the same building.
