Vikings Deny Giants ability to Interview and Hire OC

The Vikings rejected the Giants' request to interview their quarterbacks coach, Kevin Stefanski, to be their next offensive coordinator.

With Stefanski losing out for the position, he is in line to rejoin Shurmur and become the Giants' offensive coordinator.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports Staley remains under contract with Philadelphia and that New York's NFC East rival could deny them a chance to interview him. "I really enjoy working every day with Kevin Stefanski, and Pat does a great job of installing offenses and calling plays".

Stefanski, 35, was the only in-house option to interview with the Vikings, who were searching for Shurmur's replacement.

Everyone knows it would be a promotion for Stefanski to move from coaching just the quarterbacks on one team to being hired as another team's offensive coordinator. Shurmur intends to call plays in NY, much like he did for most of the past two seasons in Minnesota. He was considered a candidate for the offensive coordinator job with the Colts when McDaniels was expected to take the head coach job.

The Eagles will reportedly promote assistant quarterbacks coach Press Taylor to quarterbacks coach as DeFilippo's successor. "He's done an outstanding job this year and I do believe he's earned the right [to be a head coach]". They could block the Giants' interest even without that scenario unfolding, given the two teams' status as division rivals. He, along with Shurmur, turned Case Keenum from a career journeyman into one of the NFL's best quarterbacks last season. This was a little surprising since Shurmur had been waiting to hire his offensive coordinator in part because he wanted it to be Stefanski, if the Vikings went in a different direction with their coordinator. His tenure included the grooming of Russell Wilson, the Super Bowl XLVIII victory over the Denver Broncos at MetLife Stadium and the Super Bowl XLIX loss to the Patriots that featured one of the worst play calls in National Football League history, making Malcolm Butler's game-sealing interception at the goal line possible.

Reich has reportedly reached out to the Chargers seeking permission to talk with wide receivers coach Nick Sirianni, with whom he worked a few years back.

Heading into the playoffs, Keenum has nothing but praise for the Shurmur/Stefanski duo.
