Third militant killed, death toll reaches 5 — Sunjwan attack

The terrorist have been cornered in one of the family quarters

Mr. Singh said he spoke to the J&K DGP regarding the terrorist attack on the Army camp.

While the minister did not specify the group affiliation of the militants who carried out the attack, officials said Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were behind the terror strike.

Army's defence spokesman in a statement issued here said that two heavily armed militants were killed in an ongoing operation so far.

Today's attack comes 13 months after militants barged into the Army camp at Nagrota on the outskirts of Jammu. She also said that her husband was also seriously injured in the attack and needs immediate evacuation. The area was cordoned off after the arrival of the Army's special forces and the Special Operations Group.

What made the lapse glaring is the fact that the attack took place in Jammu, considered relatively safer than the Kashmir Valley where militants find safe passage and shelter among sympathisers to their cause.

Even before that, Lashkar militants had managed to attack an army camp at Uri in September 2016 and kill 17 soldiers, despite an alert by the IB on the possibility of a suicide attack in the region.

He said the Quick Response Team have cordoned off the area and isolated the terrorists who are holed up in a few houses.

It is learnt that Lance Naik Bahadur Singh, Major Abhijeet and Col Rohit Solanki, two women and a young girl, daughter of JCO Madan Lal Choudhary are injured in the attack.

The latest reports coming from Jammu is that third militant has been killed, taking death toll to five. At least 12 soldiers were killed in the attack.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also took stock of the situation arising out of the terror attack at Sunjwan Army camp at a high-level meeting of officers. "The army needs to out more resources in guarding its installations", said Chaudhary, a retired IPS officer. Almost a dozen soldiers were killed when militant attacked the camp in 2003.

The National Conference also distanced itself from the Pro-Pakistan slogans that were raised in the assembly after the BJP condemned the attacks. Former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah said that Pakistan had to stop terrorism and linked most incidents to Pakistan.

In December a year ago, a similar attack on highly fortified paramilitary camp in the region ended with killing of five Central Reserve Police Force personnel and three militants.
