Apple Employees Can't Stop Walking into Glass Walls

Apple got a painful reminder that design and safety aren't friends

There is one slight problem with going full "futuristic spaceship" with the design, though: The employees keep smacking into the glass walls of the workspaces inside.

The building is created to house some 13,000 employees. Cook said at the company's annual shareholder meeting earlier this week that the public won't ever be allowed to see the inside without an Apple badge, and authorities have been called for at least one trespassing complaint in the early days of the new headquarters, according to the records.

We don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but the situation is concerning enough to employees that some of them opted to stick Post-It notes on glass doors as markers to indicate there is a transparent barrier.

The office was designed by Apple design chief Jony Ive and British architectural firm Foster + Partners.

Silicon Valley is known for moving fast and breaking things, but Apple Inc. may want its employees to slow down in order to not break themselves or the company's new $5 billion headquarters. The building's design was crafted by famed architect Norman Foster, taking major cues from Apple co-founder Steve Job's vision for the new headquarters.

The impressive construction is ring-shaped and stands as the centerpiece of the building and it appears to overflow due to the curved panels of glass. Apple apparently was not real keen on that and had them removed, as pieces of yellow paper stuck to beautifully and clear windows negatively affected the aesthetics.

Originally a Steve Jobs' idea, the structure was hailed as a "statement of openness, of free movement". "The achievement is to make a building where so many people can connect and collaborate and walk and talk". After all, Apple has already been sued by a customer who walked into the glass of an Apple store in 2011.

We reached out to Apple PR for comment.

Should the Apple employees be less distracted while walking around the new campus offices or should Apple do something about it? As the story points out, none of the collisions have warranted a post to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
