Russian deputy PM says WADA's decision on Russian anti-doping agency 'expected'

Russian Appeal for Compliance Denied by WADA Ahead of 2018 Winter Olympics

The WADA decision is likely to jeopardize Russia's chances of competing in Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea in February.

The IOC has said it will decide on Russia's participation at the Pyeongchang Winter Games in South Korea during its executive board meeting being held from December 5-7.

At the meetings held in Seoul, WADA also approved an International Standard for Code Compliance by Signatories (ISCCS), which specifies a range of sanctions and procedures when sports organisations or countries are not compliant with the international anti-doping regulations they have signed.

The agency, also known as WADA, ruled after a meeting of top officials in Seoul Thursday that Russia's anti-doping body should remain blacklisted following an investigation that exposed a vast program of drugs cheating, including at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. "We of course do not agree with the decision - we consider it unjust".

WADA has told Russian Federation to "publicly accept" the report's findings and allow access to urine samples at its Moscow anti-doping laboratory.

"We are preparing for the Olympic Games", he added.

WADA has demanded that Russia "publicly accept" the findings of an independent commission, which concluded that the scheme to obscure positive dope-test results involved about 1,000 Russian athletes from 2011-2015.

"It is clear that an unconditional recognition of the McLaren Report is impossible", Zhukov added. "This means we will be one the world's biggest anti-doping organizations".

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has labeled the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) refusal to grant rights back to the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) 'unjust and unpleasant'.

"We were not surprised by WADA's decision".

Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov said on Thursday some of the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) criteria for the reinstatement of RUSADA have a "political character", R-Sport news agency reported. Last week, WADA announced it had received from a whistleblower a database containing testing data from a Moscow laboratory covering the time period between January 2012 and August 2015.
