United Nations accuses Syrian government in using chemical weapons in April

Syria's government killed civilians with chemical weapons in April finds UN inquiry

The report stated that the April 4 attack on the town in Syria's northwestern Idlib province had been carried out by Russian-made aircraft used by military forces answering to President Bashar Al-Assad.

The UN dismissed that claim in their report.

The findings that the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria presented on Wednesday in Geneva were more definite than those of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague.

The weapons used on Khan Sheikhoun were previously identified as containing sarin, an odourless nerve agent.

"In the gravest incident, the Syrian air force used sarin in Khan Sheikhoun, Idlib, killing dozens, the majority of whom were women and children", the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria reported, explicitly accusing Assad of committing war crimes.

The investigators allege that USA forces failed to take all feasible precautions to avoid or minimise incidental loss of civilian life and damage to civilian objects.

The Syrian president denies using chemical weapons on his own people. All but six have been attributed to Assad forces, with no perpetrators identified for the early attacks.

A press release issued by the Commission noted that such attacks constitute clear violations of global humanitarian law and the Convention on Chemical Weapons, which Syria ratified in 2013 following a previous sarin attack.

The US launched a retaliatory cruise-missile strike days after the attack which targeted a Syrian air base alleged to have facilitated the attack.

Wednesday's report, the 14th by the commission since it was set up by the UN's Human Rights Council in 2011, is based on information retrieved from satellite images, video, photos, medical records, and over 300 interviews.

Most of the dead from these attacks are directly on the head of Barack Obama. Following that guarantee, Syria's military dropped chlorine bombs on civilians. (Millions of World War I soldiers would disagree).

Syrian civilians have been victims to a number of chemical attacks that have hit the troubled country over the past few years.

The White House last month called on the global community to unite to ensure that anyone using chemical weapons faced "serious consequences" without commenting further on what those would be. But the media - ignoring the unprecedented withdrawal of a redline which severely damaged U.S. credibility - played along with the fiction and thousands of Syrian civilians died.

United Nations rights investigators have concluded that Syria's air force carried out a deadly nerve gas attack in April that drew worldwide condemnation, while Russian strikes helped to destroy hospitals that could have treated victims.
