Megyn Kelly's New Morning Show Is 'Far from Successful'

Megyn Kelly Addresses Fears

Megyn Kelly's "Today" debut was as live as it gets on Monday, but her first morning out got mixed reviews, nearly immediately from the early responder news sites and on social media. "It's everywhere, and it's gotten so dark, and I'm just like, over [it]".

Megyn Kelly launched her daytime makeover on Monday with "Megyn Kelly Today", conspicuously trying to reintroduce herself in the mold of Oprah Winfrey or Ellen DeGeneres - complete with a caffeinated, cheering studio audience - while establishing distance from her time as a Fox News anchor... Fans on social media let Megyn Kelly have it on Twitter during the premiere episode of "Megyn Kelly TODAY". "But how? Where? What?" she said, giving a brief overview of her career as a lawyer and TV anchor but omitted any mention of Fox News Channel, the network she left in January.

The guest started to tell Kelly about his youthful admiration for the character, but she cut him off and handed him a microphone - and he gamely repeated himself. While it's evident she'll need some time getting used to her new surroundings, the show, thankfully, is more restrained than the program that follows her, the 10 a.m. hour of "Today" hosted by the wine-sipping Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford.

Staying away from politics and serious reporting is a smart move for Kelly - yet her new NBC program appears to be as directionless as the first.

Kelly's new program is as odd as the first one at NBC.

Even her husband Douglas Brunt showed his support by bringing in flowers to congratulate her. Things were definitely light and fluffy, but viewers didn't seem to like the new Kelly.

It remains to be seen whether Kelly will attract a big audience in the competitive morning TV landscape - especially as she goes up against ABC's Live with Kelly and Ryan, which hit a three-month high in September by averaging 3 million viewers.
