Kim Jong Un: 'Deranged' Trump to 'pay dearly'

Donald Trump shakes hands with Boris Johnson

"I will make the man holding the prerogative of the supreme command in the US pay dearly for his speech calling for totally destroying [North Korea]..."

US President Donald Trump tried to come off as the cool dad for his "Rocket Man" reference at the UN General Assembly Tuesday, but Kim Jong-un's use of "dotard" took the war of words to a whole new level, and the internet is there for it.

Trump's broadside follows a rare statement by Kim, branding the U.S. president "deranged" and warning he will "pay dearly" for his threat to "totally destroy" the North if it attacks.

Ri told reporters in NY that a response "could be the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb in the Pacific", South Korea's Yonhap news agency reports.

North Korea's warning to President Donald Trump and the USA on September 21 certainly included the country's usual fiery rhetoric, but underneath its superfluous metaphors, it may have been signaling a more personal message.

The North Korean leader earlier labelled Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard" after Trump threatened to destroy his country.

They said Trump's harsh remarks are tantamount to "the most ferocious declaration of war" against the North, and has prompted the entire population to prepare to carry out "the toughest counteraction unprecedented in history".

"I will make the man holding the prerogative of the supreme command in the USA pay dearly for his speech calling for totally destroying the DPRK", said the statement carried by North's official Korean Central News Agency on Friday morning.

South Korea's government noted that Kim's response, written in the first person, was the first such direct address to the world by any North Korean leader.

Trump also praised China on Thursday for what he said was instructions to its banks to cut off business with North Korea.

South Korea's weather agency reports a magnitude 3.0 quake in an area of North Korea where the country recently conducted a nuclear test, but assessed the seismic activity as natural.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross echoed Cashin's read on China's banking directive regarding North Korea. "Regarding which measures to take, I don't really know since it is what Kim Jong-un does", said Ri. Trump also accused his predecessor, Barack Obama, of failing to deal with Kim during his two terms.

Previous quakes from North Korea have indicated nuclear tests by the reclusive state, the most recent earlier this month. The President additionally threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea if it moves against the USA or its allies.

"If (China) follows through on what they did that could be a game changer", said Cashin, UBS director of floor operations at the New York Stock Exchange. It fired a missile over Hokkaido, Japan, forcing the country to issue public alerts for its residents.
