World leaders reaffirm commitment to fighting climate change

Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff

Trump announced his decision to abandon the Paris Agreement, which includes almost every other nation, on Thursday as part of his "America First" mission.

Trump's decision to back out of the Paris climate agreement and his general stance on climate change made many American scientists feel that the United States doesn't represent their causes anymore.

Moe says the economies of both countries are so connected that it's important to move in lockstep on policies that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Governor Brown travels to China Friday where he'll speak about climate, clean energy and strengthening economic ties with the nation.

The non-profit group Climate Interactive projects average temperatures would warm an additional 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100 if USA emissions continue as they are now and every other country fulfills their pledge under the deal.

"The Paris climate agreement. would have driven up the cost of energy, hitting middle-class and low-income Americans the hardest", House speaker Paul Ryan noted.

Johnson told Sky News that Britain still wants the U.S.to take the lead in fighting climate change and called on individual USA states to keep making progress on that front.

Obama's sentiments were shared by a number of high-profile politicians, including Senator Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State John Kerry, who said remaining in the agreement would have ensured the US was not isolated.

Former Obama aide David Axelrod said "in backing off of climate pact", Trump "is locking arms with Syria and Nicaragua and matching confidently into the past".

"We're disappointed with the decision to exit the Paris Agreement. Industry must now lead and not depend on government", Immelt said on Twitter shortly after Trump's announcement.

"The Paris Agreement was adopted by all the world's nations in 2015 because they recognize the huge harm that climate change is already causing and the enormous opportunity that climate action presents", said Dujarric.

He said they would continue to lead the process, and said he was sure the USA government would eventually rejoin the struggle.

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, who serves on Trump's manufacturing council, plans to continue working with the administration.

The letter is signed "Your Nordic Friends" and urges Trump "to show global leadership - and to make the right decision". He said withdrawing the USA from the worldwide effort is a "terrible decision".
