Tottenham's first Wembley foe is Chelsea; more Premier League schedule key dates

The first fixture between likely rivals for the Premier League title comes on the second weekend, August 19 and 20, when Spurs mark their first home match at Wembley by taking on London rivals Chelsea.

Chelsea, meanwhile, take on Burnley at Stamford Bridge after winning the title in Antonio Conte's first season at the helm.

At 9am BST this morning, the Premier League released it's schedule for the upcoming 2017/18 season.

Arsenal will be opening the season hosting Leicester City on August 12th, which, wow that's soon.

Tottenham start the campaign with a trip to Newcastle United, their bogey team, aiming to exorcise the demons from their 5-1 defeat at St. James' Park on the final day of the 2015-16 season.

"After Spurs I think then we have a good run of games and I'm pleased to see it's quite a balanced list in terms of the teams we're up against". The second one of the league season will be in the middle of February, smack dab in the middle of matches against Everton and Manchester City.

Tottenham have five of six home games after playing in the Champions League, while Chelsea and United have four each. This time they face Jurgen Klopp in the third week, at Anfield, which should give an early indicator of whether they've made progress over the summer.




Those are: Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City, Burnley, and Southampton.

Manchester United begin at home to West Ham, 2016 champions Leicester visit Arsenal, while Liverpool go to Watford.

- United are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League home games with West Ham (W7 D2 L0) - their last league defeat against the Hammers at Old Trafford was in 2007.

"One possibility is that the Southampton fixture will be reversed, with Slaven Bilic's side scheduled to visit St Mary's on 31 March, meaning that West Ham would play their first three games away from home".

In the opening round, Brighton's first ever Premier League game is at home against Man City, while Huddersfield's first top-tier game since 1972 is at Crystal Palace.

The first Manchester derby of the season takes place on December 9 at Old Trafford with the Etihad Stadium match being held on April 7.

United's first major test of the campaign comes on October 14 when they travel to Anfield.
