The House's health care bill is 'mean,' Trump reportedly tells senators

LOUISVILLE KY- OCTOBER 31 Supporter James Hughes of Louisville Ky. holds a sign calling for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act during a rally for Senate Minority Leader Mitch Mc Connell at Brandeis Machinery & Supply Company

"That might mean adding additional money into it". "If we're going to overhaul this program, which we need to by virtue of Obamacare, we can at least put it on a sustainable path".

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) was surprised to hear reporters ask him about legislative text of the health care bill, which two Senate aides told IJR was almost complete as a rough draft Monday night. Republicans control 52 of the 100 seats in the Senate, but there are divisions within the party over the content of the reform bill. At a Rose Garden ceremony minutes after the bill's narrow House passage last month, Trump called it "a great plan".

President Donald Trump speaks before having lunch with Republican Senators and White House staffers in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington, Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

"This is incredibly complex and from my standpoint, I need a whole lot more information before I agree to vote yes on a bill", Johnson said in a statement.

Predictions in this political environment - and with Donald Trump in the White House - are a risky thing.

Trump's flip-flop didn't go without notice.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said senators are closer to bringing up a proposal, and other Republicans have predicted for some time that a bill would be ready for a vote before the August recess. Vice President Mike Pence, who has worked with Senate Republicans for weeks on health care, also joined the lunch.

Even Republican senators who were not privy to the drafting process are concerned they are being kept in the dark.

Sens. Cory Gardner of Colorado and John Thune of South Dakota quickly scurried into another health care meeting on Capitol Hill. "You do know? Then you know better than me", he said.

The report about Mr. Trump's comments emerged moments after Mr. Trump lashed out against Obamacare, and touted the future of health care during brief remarks in Wisconsin, where he landed Tuesday afternoon to discuss workforce development, the White House's theme for the week.

The Senate's push to repeal and replace Obamacare is looking like a game of "I've Got a Secret". "It's going to be tough".

The House and Senate remain far apart on health issues, including rolling back the Medicaid expansion and curtailing protections for people with pre-existing medical conditions.

The conservative network argues that retaining some of Obamacare's trillion dollars' worth of taxes hurts middle-class families and small businesses, raises the cost of health care, and reduces access to care as well.

House Republicans "have done (their) job", Trump said in OH, and "now it is the Senate's turn to act, and again, I hope they are going to act in a very positive manner".

"If we don't win the seat I don't know that it qualifies as a sign of what's to come, it could be an outlier", Womack said of the Georgia race.
