Senate committee starts probe on campaign collusion - between Lynch and Clinton

Quick Takes

Specifically, the Senate Judiciary Committee announced last week it will seek hearings to "examine then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch's involvement in the Clinton email server investigation". Lynch declined to comment at the time.

President Donald Trump fired Comey on May 9, citing a memo by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation director of mishandling the Clinton email probe, among other things. The probe comes after former FBI Director James Comey admitted Lynch directed him to call the probe a "matter," not an investigation, as People's Pundit Daily first reported on May 11. The alleged document was first reported by The New York Times, which quoted sources saying that the Federal Bureau of Investigation possessed information that the alleged Lynch document had been hacked by Russian intelligence, leading Comey to fear that Moscow could leak the document to call into question the independence of the Clinton e-mail probe.

On Friday, Chairman Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) confirmed that he and Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-California) sent a letter to Lynch with six questions, seeking her take on Comey's testimony to the Senate as well as media reports alleging she assured someone in the Clinton campaign the probe will not "go too far". He reportedly was anxious that the Justice Department's credibility could be called into question if the announcement came from Lynch, and Russian Federation later leaked the document. Comey's extraordinary action to announce the end of the investigation was a break from Justice Department protocol, and was later cited as justification for his removal from the FBI. The Post reported that the FBI considered the document bad intelligence and possibly even a fake sent to confuse the bureau.

Circa's report contrasts with a Washington Post claim that the Federal Bureau of Investigation provided Lynch with a "defensive briefing" on the alleged document in which she was reportedly cooperative.

Of course, it wasn't just this email that prompted Comey.

Lynch later said that she and the former president had merely engaged in a social visit, talking about grandchildren.

He told the committee that he was concerned over the former attorney general telling the FBI to refer to the Clinton investigation as a "matter," not an investigation, which resembled the Clinton campaign line.

One is Lynch's infamous tarmac meeting last June at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport where former President Bill Clinton boarded the attorney general's plane and reportedly stayed there for about 30 minutes for a private chat.
