Russia warships and sub fire cruise missiles at Syria: Moscow

Australia on Tuesday suspended its airstrikes against Islamic State group targets in Syria as a precaution, after a USA fighter jet shot down a Syrian warplane earlier this week and Russian Federation warned the US -led coalition from flying over Syrian army positions west of the Euphrates River.

On several occasions in recent weeks, warplanes of the US-led coalition have also struck pro-regime forces to prevent them advancing from the Al Tanf garrison in southeastern Syria at a spot where the country's borders join Iraq and Jordan.

In spite of the United States also leading a coalition against the terrorist group as well, the US has simultaneously been engaged in conflict with so-called "pro-regime" forces of the Syrian government, as well as supporting actors Russian Federation and Iran.

The US-led coalition conducted what the Pentagon said was a "show of force" - a reported buzzing of the pro-government troops by jets - to stop the attack and then called the Syrian government's ally, Russia, to try to "de-escalate the situation and stop the firing".

Australia's military yesterday said it was temporarily halting air missions over Syria, following the shooting down of a Syrian jet by United States forces.

That incident led Russia's defense ministry to declare that it would track as targets any American or coalition aircraft that flew west of the Euphrates River.

It said operations would continue over Iraq.

Russian Federation said it was cutting the "deconfliction line", a key communication channel between Moscow and Washington used to prevent mixed messages and avoid military collisions between the two powers.

Carla Babb, the Pentagon correspondent for Voice of America (VOA) tweeted Tuesday saying the sources have confirmed that the Iranian-made drone shot down by the us fighter jet was being operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps.

The F-15 plane downed the drone around 00:30 on Tuesday (21:30 GMT Monday) north-east of Tanf, according to a U.S. military statement.

Davis noted Monday that most of the coalition's air operations occur east of the Euphrates, where ISIS has a larger presence, and that the USA has not seen behavior from Russian Federation that would "cause us concern".

A statement by the army of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said the US "atack was an attempt to undermine efforts of the army as the only effective force capable with its allies ... in fighting terrorism across its territory..."

"It is in use to make sure that... our air crews and ground forces are safe", he said. The US military has also targeted pro-Syrian regime militias near At Tanf two other times since mid-May.
