Microsoft unveils Xbox One X

PlayStation E3 2017 Press Event Three Forgotten Games
by Albert Perkins

The Xbox One X was originally announced at E3 2016 as Microsoft boasted Project Scorpio would be the most powerful home console ever.

Microsoft also says the One X has 40% more power than any other console, but it is actually the smallest console the firm has ever built.

The ultra HD console will offer both 4K gaming and entertainment - with 4K Ultra HD support for Blu-ray X and streamed content, high dynamic range (HDR) support for gaming and video, and Dolby Atmos support.

Microsoft is taking the next-gen console to the next level by promising a machine that is more powerful than the Playstation 4 Pro, and "super sampling" for better 1080p performance.

Released on November 7, global time differences mean that Kiwi gamers will be the first on the planet to get their hands on the new hardware.

Microsoft on Sunday unveiled the brand new Xbox One X console. Marketing head for Xbox Albert Penello revealed this feature first on Twitter, and then explained it more on IGN's live show.

On paper, Xbox One X is more powerful and $100 more than the PS4 Pro.

Though we've already known some of the specs and power of the console, we now know what everyone with a wallet wants to know: the price, the release date, and, of course, the name.

Xbox One X will hit the stores on November 7 for $499. The new console will also focus on compatibility, with every game and accessory on Xbox One working on the system from day one...including backwards compatibility, which will expand to include original Xbox games.

Not only will new games run in native 4K, but earlier Xbox One titles like Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Killer Instinct, and even Minecraft will get native 4K updates too. The biggest is the announcement for the Xbox One X. Nvidia's latest card, the 1080 TI, cranks out almost double the teraflops as the Xbox One X (and costs about $600).
