GOP, Dem governors agree with Trump, call health bill 'mean'

Republicans have already given up on repealing and replacing Obamacare

That group was a major focus of former President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act.

The senators targeted in the ads have expressed some reservations about the emerging Senate legislation or the process and timeline with which GOP leaders are crafting it. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and a small clutch of aides are writing the bill behind closed doors as McConnell consults GOP senators. However, that funding would be zero by 2020 under the House bill.

The Republican-controlled House earlier had voted 67-22 to substitute its tax plan to broaden the sales tax to cellphone service and digital products but leave the tax rate at 6 percent.

While Trump celebrated passage of the House bill with a Rose Garden ceremony, lately he's told senators it's too "mean", and he's urged lawmakers to spend more money on health care. That was an extraordinary slap at legislation that Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., guided through the House and that Trump himself had championed and praised at a Rose Garden ceremony.

"The House bill is just unacceptable to me", Ohio GOP Gov. John Kasich said in an interview. "My sense is you've got to start to develop a little bipartisan support, and working with Democratic and Republican governors is a good start". I don't know where he stands on it, " said Bullock.

Aside from making changes to the state's Medicaid program, Senate leader Phil Berger said in a statement Thursday that the new bill would help address findings from the audit by banning the state-funded mental health agencies from spending tax dollars on "alcohol, first-class airfare, charter flights, holiday parties or other social gatherings". The fact that they don't want us to know what they are up to tells us all we need to know.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Friday announced that he will host an emergency field hearing at 9 a.m. Monday in Room 310 of the state Capitol to receive public input about Republican health care overhaul plans. The Democrats who added their names were John Bel Edwards of Louisiana, John Hickenlooper of Colorado, and Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania.

The measure was originally meant to address how money is spent at the state's seven mental health agencies, which receive taxpayer funding to manage and monitor services for the mentally ill, substance abusers and people with developmental disabilities.

The House bill would reduce insurance subsidies for older, lower-income, rural Americans, increasing subsidies for younger and richer people who live in cities where competition among providers makes health care less expensive.

The fear is that the Senate leadership could wait for the CBO report, then immediately bring the bill to the floor for a vote before senators or anyone else had time to gauge its effect on health coverage for millions of Americans.

Senate GOP leaders want their bill to bar federal funds for abortions. Trump said he wanted the Senate version to be "more generous", according to congressional sources. Here you have legislation which deals with one-sixth of the American economy, that's the health care situation, and there are Republicans who haven't even seen this legislation, and certainly, no member of the Democratic Caucus has.

The letter suggests no specific policy proposals.
