First round of Brexit talks to begin on Monday June 19

"We've set out our position in the speech Prime Minister made at the Lancaster Hhouse earlier this year and in our long and detailed article 50 letter", Hammond told journalists at his arrival for a ministerial meeting in Luxembourg.

In his first public comments since the election, the Chancellor said it was his "clear view" that most people want the talks to "prioritise protecting jobs, protecting economic growth and protecting prosperity".

But the DUP leader insisted it was now down to Sinn Féin whether an agreement is done.

The former Northern Ireland First Minister said her meeting with Mr Varadkar was very good and that she was looking forward to a very positive relationship with the Irish premier.

For Brussels, a concern with starting talks on such models would be that Brexit supporters might end up blocking them, raising the risk of time running out to get any deal: "Would you [.] 10 months later find that there was no real majority for that?" the official said.

The announcement was agreed today between Brexit minister David Davis and the European Commission's chief negotiator Michel Barnier, the ministry said.

But Timmermans added that he expected Britain to leave the EU.

The Brexit negotiator asked London not to "waste time" and explained that it will take "several months to draw out the conditions of an orderly withdrawal, with hard and sensitive points of discussion".

"If the government cannot even secure a deal with the DUP, how on earth can they get a deal with the European Union?" asked MP Alistair Carmichael.

"Theresa May must immediately create a cross-party joint cabinet committee to negotiate Brexit".

London-based banking giant HSBC said Friday that it would keep more jobs in Britain depending on the government's approach to Brexit.

Theresa May, the Prime Minister, wants Britain to leave both.

"Depending on a hard or soft Brexit, that number might be slightly less than that, so it's going to be updated all the time", its United Kingdom chief executive Ian Stuart told BBC television.

Davis plans to go to Brussels on Monday to start the negotiations, which will reshape not only Britain's role in the world, but also that of a bloc praised for ensuring peace after World War Two.

Meanwhile Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth II's second son, who works to encourage British economic growth, warned of years of "uncertainty and difficulty and upheaval" following Brexit.

European Commission deputy chief Frans Timmermans said Thursday (15 June) that he would welcome Britain back into the EU "with open arms" if it reconsidered its decision to quit the bloc.

"And actually, getting over the fence, there might be some fresh grass out there".
