Dems say they'll slow Senate work over secretive care bill

Obamacare in 2018: Many will pay the price of Washington's uncertainty

When the Democrats take the floor Monday evening for a series of speeches against the GOP's efforts to roll back the 2010 health care law, they will also begin objecting to a variety of unanimous consent requests that generally govern more routine Senate floor business.

Here are the players who will decide the fate of health care in the Senate this week. "I've never seen anything like it, as far as the secrecy", said Paul Ginsburg, a health policy expert at the University of Southern California.

Republicans argue that their legislation will result in lower premiums. Or because they do, and it's unpopular? But, as if that weren't abhorrent enough, Mitch has decided that if this bill were to, you know, be seen by Americans, they would hate it. "I've said that in several of our meetings but that's obviously not what's going to happen".

"These are merely the first steps we're prepared to take in order to shine a light on this shameful Trumpcare bill and reveal to the public the GOP's true intentions", said Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., in a statement.

Democrats have charged Republicans with developing the bill "in secret" and intentionally hiding it from the public out of fear.

Instead, Republicans set up a group of 13 lawmakers - originally, none of them were women - to come up with something else. And if this bill isn't passed by that point, he's fearful that those senators' constituents will lose their minds screaming about how awful this is, and Mitchyboy will lose some of his votes.

The difference between his private negotiations and how Republicans are trying to move their bill through the Senate is that the details of the entire Democratic bill and the language he was seeking were well-known to the public, Stupak said Monday. "We tried very, very, very hard".

Up for re-election in 2018 in a state Hillary Clinton won, Heller is perhaps one of the most vulnerable Republicans in this health care debate.

Arguably, Republicans don't want to be doing it this way. Republican leaders would like a vote in July, even before the July 4 recess if possible. As a former ME insurance commissioner, Collins said she grew frustrated at House lawmakers invoking Maine's experience with high-risk pools as justification for that idea. The media starts reporting it, the opposition latches onto it, and then that person who floated the idea is faced with protests in their district and now the idea is so toxic it has to be dropped. But it's not uncommon for either party to draft bills or resolve stubborn final hurdles behind closed doors, foregoing the step-by-step, civics-book version of how Congress works. But it didn't always start out that way. "My promise to the voters was to repeal Obamacare, and it looks more like we're keeping a good chunk of Obamacare".

The American Hospital Association warned Senate Republicans Monday against including large cuts to Medicaid in its healthcare bill.

The House narrowly approved its version of repeal last month.

"Everyone's going to get to weigh in", he said Sunday. The legislation has yet to be receive Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score and has remained mysterious to the majority of the chamber.

"I'm not sure [the Senate bill] will end up being more to the center", Collins said.

Murkowski's not an easy get, but if leadership is amendable to her wishes, it could give an indication that the bill is moving in a more moderate direction. But there's a real chance that, if Republicans pull this off, it could be the way both sides pass bills in the future.
