Arab nations cut ties with Qatar, saying it backs terror

The harshest restrictions came from Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation, which banned all Qatari planes from landing at the kingdom's airports and stopped them from crossing Saudi airspace. So did an eastern-based government in Libya, which has spurned the UN-backed, internationally recognized government in Tripoli.

According to the Emirates news agency, WAM, Abu Dhabi has accused Qatar of "supporting, funding and embracing terrorism, extremism and sectarian organizations".

In regards to how Qatar's global relations may impact preparations for the Middle East's first World Cup, the AFC declined to comment. Egypt's Foreign Ministry accused Qatar of taking an "antagonist approach" toward Cairo and said "all attempts to stop it from supporting terrorist groups failed". The cutting of diplomatic ties has also greatly reduced what airspace Qatar's national airline can use.

Muslim Brotherhood groups allied to Doha are now mostly on the backfoot in the region, especially after a 2013 military takeover in Egypt ousted the elected Islamist president.

While all the media reports published recently lashed out at Qatar, a new comprehensive report published on May 31, 2017 by the Washington-based Institute for Gulf Affairs made no mention of any Qatari involvement in supporting terrorism or withholding terrorism-related intelligence from the United States administration.

Qatar's cabinet said earlier on Monday it was still open for trade.

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain first cut ties on Monday morning.

"Qatar has been exposed to an instigation campaign based on allegations that amounted to absolute fabrications, which proves that there are premeditated intentions to cause damage to the state".

The incident ignited a diplomatic row between Qatar and fellow Gulf states Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Speaking in Sydney, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said he did not expect the announcement to have "any significant impact, if any impact at all, on the unified fight against terrorism".

"We certainly would encourage the parties to sit down together and address these differences", he added.

A spokesperson for FIFA said world football's governing body " is in regular contact" with the tournament's organising committee but declined to comment any further. "We are saddened by the current picture and will give any support for its normalisation", Cavusoglu said.

He emphasized that Iran had always stressed that any problem in the Middle East should be resolved by the countries of the region.

Former ambassador Kabir said it is not clear yet how the situation will pan out.

Qatar is also a member of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf which includes the above-mentioned countries except Egypt.

"There is no challenge arising out of this for us".

"We can export any kind of agricultural products and food from Iranian ports of Bandar Abbas, Bandar Lengeh and Bushehr", Nourani told Fars, which is believed to be affiliated to Iran's hardline Revolutionary Guards. Regional airlines announced they would suspend service to Qatar's capital, Doha, where the 25,000-acre Education City is situated.

"Qatar Airways has suspended all flights to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" until 1159 GMT the same day, a statement from the Doha-based carrier said.

The crisis began in late May when Qatar alleged that hackers took over the site of its state-run news agency and published what it called fake comments from its ruling emir about Iran and Israel.
